Championing Women Entrepreneurs: International Cooperative Day Showcases Small Business Impact and Opportunities

Bankura, 2nd July 2024: To mark International Cooperative Day, SwitchON Foundation united women entrepreneurs of the region at the DRDC Conference Hall in bankura, celebrating the pivotal contributions of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises to the local economy. This impactful event offered invaluable insights into government schemes and initiatives, creating a nurturing and empowering environment for emerging women entrepreneurs in the region.

The event was graced by esteemed guests: Shri. Debojit Bose, Project Director, DRDC, and Mr Chandan Das, General Manager, District Industries Centres. They shared their expertise on the crucial role of Cooperatives creating a nurturing and empowering environment for emerging women entrepreneurs. Around 40 women from Cooperatives societies like Weaver Cooperative Society, Rampur Mahamaya Khadi Gramodaya Sangha (Khadi Society) etc joined the International Cooperatives Day celebrations. 

Shri. Debojit Bose, Project Director, DRDC stated, “Cooperatives are the backbone of our local economy. They provide a platform for women entrepreneurs to collaborate, innovate, and access essential resources and support. I applaud SwitchON Foundation for organizing such an impactful event that brings together key stakeholders and highlights the vital contributions of small businesses.”

Mr. Surajit Chakraborty, General Manager, SwitchON Foundation said, “By providing the right resources and support, we can unlock endless opportunities for growth and innovation in the Cooperative sector. Our aim is to make local entrepreneurs aware of the various opportunities available to them and equip them with the right knowledge and tools to start and scale their businesses.”

One of the key highlights was that the event featured exhibitions highlighting the achievements of successful women entrepreneurs, showcasing their innovative products and services. These exhibitions aimed to inspire and motivate other aspiring women entrepreneurs, to pursue their business ambitions. Participants had the opportunity to engage directly with government officials through interactive sessions. These sessions provided valuable information about various government schemes, initiatives like Bhabishyat Credit Card, KVIC – Khadi & Village Industries Commission, Micro & Small Enterprises Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP) fostering a supportive environment for the participants.

Mr Chandan Das, General Manager, District Industries Centres said, “This event highlights the vital role of Cooperatives in driving economic development. By fostering a supportive environment and facilitating access to government schemes, we can empower small businesses to reach new heights.”

The Cooperative Day celebration served as a vital platform for recognizing the pivotal role that small businesses play in the local economy. It also equipped women with the knowledge and resources they need to succeed.
