Farmer Producer Organization Promotion
Our unique model is based on the concept of collectivisation that involves identification of producer cluster area and small and marginal farmers. We focus on institutional development and capacity building by bringing the farmers together into clusters and forming FPOs.
Once this is underway, we provide market, credit and scheme linkages that add value to the raw produce. We also ensure hand holding support and training to the marginal farmers for them to become self-sufficient and empowered.
SwitchON Foundation (Environment Conservation Society) is promoting 60 FPOs across India (27 in West Bengal, 2 in Manipur, 6 in Meghalaya, 17 in Maharashtra, 5 in Sikkim & 3 in Madhya Pradesh). Out of these 60 FPOs, 26 are supported by NABARD, 24 by SFAC and the rest by NAFED, NCDC, SOFDA. SwitchON Foundation was appointed as a Resource Institute under Small Farmers’ Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC) for promoting Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) in West Bengal. SwitchON Foundation has received a mandate to promote Farmer Producer Organizations in eight districts of West Bengal viz., Purulia, Nadia, Howrah, Hooghly, Kalimpong, Bankura, North 24 Parganas & Paschim Medinipur. The objectives are to Collectivize farmers, especially small producers, at various levels, ensure access to and usage of quality inputs and services for intensive agriculture enhancing cluster competitiveness, strengthen farmer capacity through agricultural best practices for enhanced productivity and facilitate access to fair & remunerative markets including linking producer groups to marketing opportunities by market aggregators.
Till now, 4000 small and marginal farmers mobilized, more than 300 trainings have been conducted and 9 government scheme linkages have been facilitated. 1500 farmers benefited through scheme linkages and more than 500 registered organic farmers.
