SwitchON’s Climate Resilient Agriculture Program
SwitchON’s Climate Resilient Agriculture Program is a holistic approach that empowers communities to adopt regenerative agricultural practices, distributed renewable energy, and rural women entrepreneurship. Our program emphasizes Natural and Agro-ecological Farming, as well as the promotion of Renewable Energy for Agriculture, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and double farmer incomes. We work closely with small farmer collectives, connecting them to both domestic and export markets.
The TapovON Model
The program’s core component is the TapovON model, which creates clusters of farmers who adopt regenerative agriculture practices. In each farming cluster spanning 100 acres of land, farmers are provided with a crop calendar based on market demand and their agro-climatic zone through SwitchON’s network partners, allowing the program to maximize its impact. The TapovON model is a testament to the power of collective action, demonstrating that even small-scale farmers can make a significant difference when working together.
Scaling Up through Collaboration
SwitchON’s program is not limited to its own resources; it scales up its impact through collaborations with government departments, bilateral institutions, international universities, and foundations. By working with these partners, SwitchON can leverage their expertise, resources, and networks to reach a wider audience and amplify its impact.
Empowering Rural Women
SwitchON’s program also places a strong emphasis on rural women entrepreneurship, recognizing the critical role that women play in agricultural development. This aims to empower women across four key value chains: tea, agriculture and allied sectors, livestock, and handloom. Through incubation, acceleration, and mentoring, it equips rural women entrepreneurs with essential business skills, including business acumen, market linkages, and access to credit facilities. They lead business clusters within these sectors, showcasing it as replicable models of women-led collective enterprises. Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) technologies are leveraged to enhance efficiency across value chains. Finally, market linkage with buyers are established to ensure a profitable market for their produce, completing the farm-to-fork cycle.
SwitchON’s Climate-Resilient Agriculture program serves as a transformative model in the fight against climate change. By integrating regenerative practices and renewable energy, it enhances agricultural productivity, fosters resilience and self-reliance among rural communities. The program’s collaboration with government entities like Department of Agriculture, SFAC, NABARD, and WBSRLM and support to rural farmers especially women further amplifies its impact, promoting sustainable livelihoods. As these initiatives expand, they offer a scalable blueprint for other regions, demonstrating that sustainable development is achievable through collective action and innovative practices.
