Ranchi, 23rd May 2024: The Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) has entered into a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SwitchON Foundation for the next three years to empower students to take action for environmental sustainability and climate change, fostering a generation of environmentally conscious citizens across 11 districts in Jharkhand viz. Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Sahebganj, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Deoghar, Godda, Koderma, Giridih, and Ranchi.

One of the special highlights of the MoU is that it focuses on providing environmental education through an innovative online platform called ‘EnvirON’ to students. ‘EnvirON,’ is a digital Learning Management System developed by SwitchON, to educate students on air pollution, environmental sustainability, and waste management. This digital platform offers dynamic learning experience through online courses, DIY Projects, and interactive visuals. By engaging students in a model structured to learn, reflect and act, the platform seeks to instill a deep understanding and commitment to environmental issues.

Sri Aditya Ranjan, IAS State Project Director, JEPC said, “Climate Change and air pollution affects all of us, but children are particularly vulnerable. Change has to start with all of us and building children’s awareness is key, because they can then start mobilizing family and friends to take action on the issue. Let us promote environmental conservation for a greener planet.”

Mr. Vinay Jaju, Managing Director, SwitchON Foundation stated, “We believe that as young leaders of tomorrow, it is crucial for children to understand the significance of sustainable living and take concrete steps to address the issue of air pollution and climate change. ‘EnvirON’ will provide a unique opportunity for school children to not only learn about the importance of clean air, but also actively engage in efforts to improve air quality in their communities”.

The partnership aims to create a ripple effect of environmental awareness and action. Workshops will be conducted to raise awareness about air pollution and its health implications, motivating students to take collective action, engaging students in monitoring and reporting activities related to waste burning, solid waste management, and reducing single-use plastic, through school-based activities like painting competitions and DIY installations. The Partnership aims at empowering eco clubs and greenovation clubs through workshops focused on micro-projects, recycling, composting, and plantation drives. The hands-on approach aims to make children and youth aware of air pollution, inspire them to protect themselves, and take positive action.  Students will be trained on how to use the ambient air quality data, prepare reports, and spread awareness amongst their campus and community. The practical training is expected to foster a proactive attitude towards environmental stewardship.

The MoU marks a dedicated effort by JEPC and SwitchON Foundation to work closely over the next three years. By equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills necessary to address pressing environmental challenges, the initiative aims to nurture a culture of environmental stewardship. The ultimate goal is to inspire the next generation to become champions of sustainability, creating a lasting impact on both local communities and the planet.
